Senior Technical Writer - API

Key Responsibilities:

• Create documentation about configuring and customizing Vendavo products (for internal and external configuration engineers)
• Create and maintain Vendavo Tools documentation
• Create and maintain Vendavo installation and setup guides
• Contribute to release notes documentation
• Create Java API documentation
• Create code samples in Java, JavaScript, and SQL
• Work closely with the development team, attend regular project meetings, and represent the interests of the writing group
• Communicate documentation priorities and accomplishments to the internal stakeholder community
• Review internal online developer forums/KB for content to include in the documentation
• Identify ways to improve the documentation quality and production process

Skills:

• Able to program in Java, JavaScript, and SQL
• Possess excellent writing (English language) skills
• Able to develop documentation with minimal supervision and conduct peer edits
• Able to analyze design/development documentation to assess information completeness and gaps

Experience:

• Five years experience creating developer documentation from scratch
• Two years experience with FrameMaker
• Programming experience, preferably in Java and OOP. The ideal candidate will have either educational or practical experience with Java
• Understanding of J2EE and N-tier applications preferred
• Understanding of relational database (Oracle and/or DB2) concepts and SQL preferred
• Enterprise software development environment experience a strong plus
• Knowledge or experience with JavaScript, XML, and Web application development environments

Required Applications and Tools:

• FrameMaker 7.2 or 8.0
• Eclipse or other IDE
• CVS or other source control software
• Microsoft Word and Excel
• SnagIt, Corel Paint Shop Pro or image editing software

Attributes:

• Strong written, spoken, interpersonal communication, and interviewing skills. The candidate must be comfortable communicating with engineers, product managers, and service team members via e-mail, in person, and by phone to acquire and validate information
• Self-starter. The candidate must be able to work independently, develop documentation plans, and manage deadlines
• Works well in a dynamic environment under tight timelines
• Strong teaming skills. The candidates must be capable of seeking/obtaining input from others and incorporating input from multiple sources/stakeholders
• Strong internal compass. The candidate must know when to ask questions, when to ask for more support, when to escalate issues, and how to solicit input and support
