PricingWith almost four months left to go, this year already has seen four price increases on finished lubricants. Together, they represent an increase of close to 25 percent. These are record numbers for a calendar year. In fact, there has been only one other time we have seen anything like it - the period spanning the fourth quarter of 2007 to second quarter of 2008. That was when crude prices spiked to over $140 a barrel, and base oils and additives tracked along. As a result of the spike in cost of goods, four price increases were pushed through in a period of roughly 10 months, totaling close to 20 percent.
